Internet Resiliency Club
I have read an article called “Start your own Internet Resiliency Club”. It discusses that the world has become more unstable due to a lot of reasons, such as war, geopolitics and climate change. Therefore the author believes that more internet disruptions will impact Europe, and then how we can somewhat prepare for that.
It talks mostly about how to prepare ourselves to hopefully not lose local communication. My personal opinion is that this won’t matter too much but a preparation phase would be substantially better. Just discuss in your group about a meeting point or use meshtastic if you’d like, but I think more focus should be spent on preparing yourself that you won’t reach the internet during this period. Therefore you need to invest to have wikis locally and also all your required software locally. If you are able to read code then having the source code locally is a step towards having documentation locally.
Generally making sure we have systems that keep copies of relevant information. Some examples include:
- Git projects
- DNS
- Wikipedia
- Other wikis (Maybe Arch wiki or something similar)
This is a necessary thing to do if countries are having internet blackouts or if other countries are using their big companies as leverage in war/politics. I’d say this is where it especially shines as it is a way to not attach yourself too much on having access to their systems.
My main point here is: We as countries or continents should make sure we are independent. It solves some of the issues in war and some of the issues in loss of infrastructure situations.
